Cheapest AI product photography apps for Shopify in 2026

9 min readPublished Updated

Short answer: Photoroom Max is the cheapest per image if you need volume. It works out to about $0.012 per exported image at $34.99 a month. Prodofoto Starter is the cheapest paid plan that generates photos and publishes them inside Shopify, at $9.99 a month. If you only need the odd background swap, Shopify's own file editor had no separate charge at our last check.

A few notes on the table:

  • Prodofoto's per-photo cost depends on how you split each shoot. A shoot costs 5 credits and returns 2, 4, 6, or 9 photos on paid plans. Each shoot renders one image grid that is split across the photos, so more photos per shoot means a lower cost per photo and smaller photos. On Starter that's $0.50 a photo at 2 per shoot and $0.11 at 9.
  • Photoroom's export count is the limit that matters for Shopify, because each Shopify sync counts as an export. AI features draw from a separate credit pool.
  • Annual billing lowers several of these prices. Photoroom Pro drops to $7.50 a month, Claid Essentials to $9, and Flair Pro+ to $26. Pebblely's yearly plans give "2+ months free." Prodofoto bills every 30 days through Shopify and has no free trial.

How did we calculate cost per image?

We took the monthly price and divided it by the outputs the plan includes. For Prodofoto that means monthly credits divided by 5 credits per shoot, times 2 to 9 photos per shoot, with no edits or upscales. We quote 4 photos per shoot as the middle case. For Claid it means standard AI Photoshoot generations at 4 credits each. Claid's studio-quality photoshoots cost 10 credits, which more than doubles the per-image cost. For Photoroom it means exports, since that is what a Shopify sync uses.

These are best-case numbers. Real cost goes up when you reroll a result or edit a photo. On Prodofoto an edit costs 2 credits and an upscale 3, and a multi-product shoot costs 10. Unused credits matter too. Pebblely says unused credits don't roll over. Prodofoto's paid credits roll over and each renewal adds to your balance, so a slow month doesn't waste them.

Which is cheapest if you just need a few edits?

Shopify's own media generation is the cheapest place to start. In the admin file editor you can replace a background with a solid color or type a prompt like "change background to a studio." It makes one scene at a time at about 1 megapixel and adds an invisible watermark that doesn't restrict commercial use, according to Shopify's help center on November 1, 2026.

Shopify's help center says the feature is available on all Shopify plans at no additional cost for a limited time, as of November 1, 2026. It works for a handful of products, but it isn't built for shooting a whole catalog.

Which is cheapest per image at volume?

Photoroom Max at $34.99 a month for 3,000 exports, which is about $0.012 per exported image. Ultra is lower still at $99 for 10,000 exports, about $0.0099, if you can use that many.

Two catches. Photoroom's Shopify integration only publishes, downloads, or exports on Max or Ultra, so Pro at $12.99 doesn't cover a Shopify workflow. And it publishes images to Shopify as drafts that you then review. Photoroom has a 3.9 rating from 36 reviews on the Shopify App Store.

Which is the cheapest app that generates and publishes inside Shopify?

Prodofoto Starter at $9.99 a month. Its 50 credits cover 10 shoots, and each shoot returns 2, 4, 6, or 9 photos in studio, lifestyle, on-model, or infographic mode. Finished photos go straight into the product's media gallery. Every edit is saved as a version you can revert, and every plan can turn a generated photo into a 5 or 10 second video clip with Animate. The next cheapest plan that generates and publishes inside Shopify was Modelize at $19 for 100 images. Pebblely Lite costs less at $9, but its Shopify app isn't available.

Know the limits before you buy. Shoots use the photos already on your Shopify product, so you can't upload a separate source image. More photos per shoot means smaller photos, because one grid is split across them. Copycat mode, custom prompts, bulk shoots, and multi-product scenes need Pro at $29.99. The free plan gives 10 credits once, enough for 2 shoots of 2 lower-resolution photos, and you publish those to Shopify by hand. Prodofoto launched in February 2026 and had 4 reviews on the App Store when we checked.

Which is cheapest for on-model apparel photos?

At volume, Photoroom Max again. It includes up to 5,000 AI Fashion Models generations at 1K, though the 3,000-export cap still applies to what you can publish.

On a small budget inside Shopify, Prodofoto Starter at $9.99 is the lowest entry price with an on-model mode. On-model also works on Prodofoto's free plan, so you can test it on one product first. Modelize also does on-model shots and auto-publishes to listings, starting at $19 for 100 images. Claid's AI Fashion feature costs 4 credits per image, the same as its photoshoots, but Claid has no Shopify app.

Whatever you pick, check every on-model result against the real garment for color, print, and fit before it goes live. For a deeper comparison, see our guide to AI on-model photo apps for Shopify.

Which is cheapest for an API or 4K output?

Claid. Pro costs $49 a month for 2,000 credits, includes 2K and 4K generation, and works out to $0.098 per AI photoshoot image. Essentials at $15 caps output at 2K. The free trial adds 50 API credits. Claid lists "Shopify products" as an export format, but we didn't find a Shopify app, so plan on importing the files yourself.

When do Pebblely or Flair make sense?

Pebblely's Pro plan is cheap per image at $0.078, with 500 images for $39. It is a background-scene tool with 40+ themes, and there is no free trial. Its Shopify App Store page says the app is not currently available, so you download and upload images yourself.

Flair AI suits merchants who want to compose each scene by hand on a canvas. It is the most expensive per image in this group, $0.44 on Pro+ and $0.37 on Scale with monthly billing, and instant and ad generations use the quota 4 times faster. Flair has no Shopify app.

How does AI compare with hiring a photographer?

A studio charges $25 to $75 per white-background image, according to Chronos Studio on July 7, 2026, and Squareshot on May 13, 2026. Every paid AI plan in this post costs about $0.50 per image or less by our math.

A photographer still wins when you need proof of the physical product, such as exact color, texture, or fit. Our product photography cost guide breaks down photographer rates and when each option pays off.

Is the cheapest app also the best?

Not always. Price per image only matters for images you actually publish. Run the same product through two or three free tiers and compare accuracy, resolution, and how much work it takes to get the photo onto the listing.
